FOODSTUFFS AND PROVISIONS,
Imports fell from $241 millions to $212 millions, and Exports from $201 millions to $185 millions.
Imports of Beans fell from 1.1 million piculs to 833,000 piculs; Fresh Fish from 174,000 piculs to 110,000 piculs; Miscellaneous Fishery Products from $11.3 millions to $0.8 millions.
During 1932, Australia made a strong bid for the Wheat Flour market. In 1931, Aus- tralia accounted for 111,798 piculs of the total import of 1,678,984 piculs, but in 1932, the Australian share was 893,339 piculs of a total of 1,947,824 piculs. The U. S. A. figure fell from 1,219,508 piculs to 692,798 piculs.
Rice imports improved considerably; 16.2 million piculs ($93.6 millions) entering, as against 13.1 million piculs ($82.8 millions).
Imports of live Game and Poultry (mainly chickens and ducks) fell from 4.0 millions to
3.7 millions.
Imports of Australian Mutton increased from 379,164 lbs. to 422,852 lbs., averaging 31 cents per pound as compared with 39 cents.
Total imports of Sugar of all grades (excluding molasses) fell from 6.2 million piculs ($51.6 millions) to 4.1 million piculs ($29.2 millions). The heavy import duty on sugar im- ported into China affected the local exports of the refined product; refined white and brown exports falling from 2.5 million piculs ($23.8 millions) to 1.1 million piculs ($11.0 millions).
Japanese Condiments fell from $182,000 to $850.
Miscellaneous Confectioneries doubled:

South China sending $168,000 as compared
The Ginger trade suffered a decline. Imports of fresh and salted Ginger were valued at $504,000 as compared with $802,000, while exports of the locally preserved product fell from $2.3 millions to $1.7 million.
Jams and Preserves rose from $257.000 to $439,000.
Imports of Mushrooms fell from $3.6 millions to $2.2 millions, the Japanese product falling from $1.3 million to $184,000.
Exports of locally manufactured Sausages fell from $676,000 to $154,000.
Both imports and exports of Tea fell heavily. In 1932, imports totalled $3,523,000 as compared with $5,250,000 in 1931, while exports were valued at $3,200,000 as against $4,486,000. Imports from Middle China fell from $2,400,000 in 1931 to $1,569,000 in 1932. Fresh Milk to a value of $27,793 was exported to South China, Macao and the Philippines.
FUELS.
Total imports rose from $13.7 millions to $14.7 millions, while exports fell from $3.0 millions to $2.5 millions.
There were slightly increased imports of Charcoal and Firewood.
The Japanese
Bituminous Coal imports increased from 660,000 tons to 757,000 tons. share of the trade increased from 286,000 tons ($5,241,000) to 318,000 tons ($5,152,000). India entered the market with 192,000 tons ($2,799,000) as compared with 16,000 tons ($238,000), while South African imports increased from 3,600 tons ($61,000) to 31,700 tons ($450,000).
HARDWARE.
Total imports decreased from $5.5 millions to $5.2 millions, and exports from $3.0 millions to $2.8 millions.
