LAW AFFECTING CURRENCY.

1. Ordinanen. Șo. 1 of 1863, sections 13 stud 20.—This Ordiunuce relatus to the offence of forging Bank Notes,

2. Ordinumer No..7 of 1865.—(Hfences against Coinage.

3. Ordinance No. 7 of 1895.—Defaring or Chopping British Dollars.

4. Order in Council of 2ul February, 1895, published in Government Gazette Extraordinary of 30th March,

1595, declaros that Mexican Dollars, Hongkong Dollars and British Dollary or other Silver Dollars of equivalent

value duly autiuorised by the Governor of Hongkong shall be the only legal tender, and provides that Silver Coins

representing some multiple of the cent or one hundredth part of the said Dollars shall be a legal tender for any

im not exceeding Two Dollars, and that Copper or Bronze Coins representing the cent or one-hundredth part

or the inil or cash representing one-thonsandil part of the Dollar shali ben légal tender for any sum not execeding

One Dollar.

The above Currency consists of the following Coins, viz.:—

1. The Silver Dollar of Mexico.

2. The Hongkong Dollar and Hali-Dollar issues) from Her Majesty's Mina at Hongkong,

3 The British Dollar.

4. Silver Coing issued from His Majesty's Mint, representing—

(1) One-half of the suid Dollar, estamonly called Fifty-Cour l'ieve:

(ii) One-fifth part of the suid Dollar, commonly called Twenty-Cent Piece;

(iii) One-tenth purt of the said Dollar, coinuonly called Ten-Ceur Piece;

(iv) One-twentieth part of the said Dollar, »ommonly called Five-Cent Piece; and

5. Copper or Bronze Coins, also issued from His Majesty's Miur representing—

(3) One-hundredth part of said Dollar, and commonly called One Cont ; nud

(ii) One-thousandth part of said Dollar, and commonly called Mil or Cash.

The Army rate of exchange for issue of Silver Dollars to His Majesty's Troops is now fixed quarterly by the Imperial Treasury.

The rate for first quarter of 1910 was 1/8, for second quarter 18, for third quarter 1,8, and for fourth quarter 1,9 per Dollar.
