GENERAL EXEMPTIONS.
Any Deed, Instrument or Writing of any kind whatsoever made or oxcouted by or on behalf of Her Majesty or of any Department of Her Majesty's Ser- vice, or whereby any Proport or Interest is transforred to or any Contract of any kind whatsoovor is made with Har Majesty or any Person for or on behalf of Her Majesty or any such Department as aforesaid.
Nors.-The foregoing exemption does not extend to any Dood, Instrument or Writing, executed by the Registrar of the Supreme Court as Official Adminis- trator or by a Receiver appointed by any Court, or to any Deod, Instrument," or Writing rendered no- cessary by any Ordinance, or by the order of any Court; neither does it extend to a sale made for the recovery of an arrear of Revenue or Rent or in satisfaction of a Degree or Order of Court, in any of which caneos the purchaser shall be required to pay in addition to the purchase money the amount of the requisite Stamp.

Polico Rato at TĮ per cent. for Houses in the City of Victoris, and at 5 per cent. for Henace in British Kau-lung and the outlying Villages of the Colony; and the Lighting Rato at 14 per cent, the Fire Brigade Rate at 4 per cent, and the Water Rato at 2 per cent, per annum, for Houses in the City of Victoria.
Tho Rates are payablo Quarterly in advance between the first and last days of the first month in each quarter.
Thoso several Rates are chargeable on, and recoverable from the owners of the Tenements in respect of which the above assessments have been made.
