In the sale of Marine Lots during the year a new scale or rate of assessment of the Rental was adopted and which has answered very well; as nearly as possible I arranged the depth of all lots alike and fixed a rate of ten shillings per foot frontage; and accordingly lots which were in favourable positions, or on which a small amount of labour was required to reclaim the area from the sea, produced a high premium in comparison with others on which a large expenditure was required; and it was a stipulation in the terms of sale that the Grand Road should be formed by the tenements, beyond which no encroachments would be permitted.
Of Marine Lots thus sold, including an area to be reclaimed of 10 acres and 12 perches, were alienated producing a Rental of £1,024. Grand Premium $2,915.
