Drains in the area last sold at the Godowns, as houses are being erected in various places.
"Report and Estimate No. 1 of 1845, prepared for the general surface drainage of the City at that date, was delayed or postponed generally, presumably for want of funds. This expenditure was estimated at £2,660 15s. 3d. and £2,130 12s. 8d. had been expended when the works were stopped. The balance was, however, subsequently authorized, and immediate steps were taken for the prosecution of the work. £208 14s. 8d. was expended in the year, leaving a balance of £2,411 5s. 3d., which is not sufficient to include much of the now extended area of the City.
Marine Works. The necessity for additional piers in the City has been apparent for a long period, and two were authorized for Victoria West; and for Victoria Wharf, the former costing £364 16s. 6d., and the latter £531 18s. 6d. These have been very fairly executed, but should further extensions be made, or the Strand Road formed, a further expenditure will be demanded; as a balance of £2,197 12s. 8d. remains on the Eastern Piers which may be appropriated if thought necessary in the further improvement of the work or kept in reserve for future services.
Sundry Works. Report and Estimate No. 23 of 1846 was prepared for a supply of water to the City in case of fire, service though approved from ...
