In fine an additional teacher was appointed to the Victoria School to give instruction in English, and assist the head teacher in the general duties of the school, the numbers in attendance having for some time exceeded the complement of it. We have reason to be pleased with his endeavours to perform his duty faithfully, and with the progress of his classes throughout the year.
The school was removed to a larger building in the same neighbourhood. This is much more satisfactory condition than formerly, but a suitable playground is, in regard to this as to the other schools (excepting Hong Kong Home and Binnie Wallin), a great desideratum.
The Sai Kung and Sha Tau Kok schools are also in a more satisfactory condition than were any of the others during the year preceding. The masters seem to be attentive and to have the confidence of the pupils and of the inhabitants of the villages in which they reside. The other schools are in an unsatisfactory condition.
