The

only gold coins legally current, are those of the United Blingdon,
and the bast India Company's gold Mohur, coined since the jet September, 1835, value £. 1.9.2, sterlings. This latter, however, is seldom, perhaps never met with in the Colony. The silver coins besides those of the United Kingdom,
the Dollars of Spain, Mexics, and the South American States, cash equivalent to the sterling, and the bast India Company's Rupee, Half, Quarter, Eighth of Rupee, at 1/10, 117, 34, and 24 respectively. Five frane pieces and Dutch Guilders, probably brought from Batavia,
occasionally "found in direnlation, but they are not recognized
and
as currency.
