REMAND HOME FOR JUVENILE OFFENDERS (GIRLS).
1938.
(1) 311 girl juvenile offenders were admitted to the Home during the year for the following offences:-
Hawking 159 Mendicancy 13 In possession of opium & heroin pills 12 In possession of dutiable tobacco 5 In possession of dangerous Drugs 1 Breach of forestry regulations 17 Larceny 15 Destitute and wandering 10 Enquiries 42 Breach of Emergency Regulations 9 Receiving stolen money 3 Removing pig wash during prohibited hours 1 Trespassing 2 Road obstruction 1 Dredging harbour 1 Kidnapped 1 Keeping a gaming house 1 Assault 4 Committing a nuisance 2 Unauthorized charitable collector 1 In possession of po piu lottery tickets 1 Soliciting for immoral purposes 9 Breach of Juvenile Offenders Ordinance 1932 311 Total 311(2) Of this number 9 were dealt with as adults, 19 were transferred to the Salvation Army Home, and 71 were ordered detention by the magistrate for the following offences :--
Hawking 12 Mendicancy 7 In possession of opium & heroin pills 10 In possession of dutiable tobacco 4 Breach of Forestry Regulations 3 Larceny 11 Destitute and wandering 1 Enquiries 4 Breach of Emergency Regulations 8 Receiving stolen money 1 Keeping a gaming house 1 In possession of po piu lottery tickets 1 Breach of Juvenile Offenders Ordinance 1932 8 Total 71(3) Eight girls have attended the V.D. clinic for daily treatment.
These cases have necessarily been isolated.
Scabies and numerous other minor complaints were treated in the Home.
The medical officer visited the Home when needed.
The health of the girls was generally good.
