112. Government Stores and Workshops :-This work was referred to in paragraph 153 of last year's Report. Sketch plans were prepared for the development of the reclamation adjoining the Yacht Club at North Point. The scheme provided for the erection of Central Government Stores, Waterworks workshops, Public Works Department garage with workshops and sand storage bins. It was decided to proceed with the Central Government Stores only, and a contract for the piling was let on 3rd September to The Vibro Piling Co., Ltd. which was completed on 7th November. Working drawings were in course of preparation for the buildings.
A contract for the construction of a reinforced concrete pier 70 feet by 30 feet was let to Messrs. Sang Lee & Co. in October. At the end of the year all the reinforced concrete piles, seventeen in number were manufactured.

113. Stanley Market:-This work consisted of the erection of a retail market in reinforced concrete to provide accommodation for twenty-four stalls, a poultry killing room, quarters for the caretaker with latrines and a septic tank. The stalls were finished in terrazzo and suitably fitted up for the use of butchers, fishmongers, poulterers, vegetable and fruit sellers. A contract was let to The Chung Lee Construction Co., on 3rd July and the work was satisfactorily completed on 17th November.

GENERAL WORKS.
114. Roads:-Consequent upon the erection of new buildings, kerbing and channelling operations were executed on sixteen roads. Footpaths were paved, scavenging lanes surfaced with cement concrete and any necessary alterations in levels or alignment were carried out.

115. Drainage (a) Training Nullahs:-An open nullah 320 feet long, arching to a length of 140 feet and contingent work on the Waterworks Reserve to the west of Blue Pool area was constructed. Preliminary excavation for the construction of a rubble mound for Sing Woo Road branch nullah was undertaken. Minor works carried out included the construction of 350 feet of 24" to 9" open channels.
