100. Maintenance of Lighthouses:-All Lighthouses were maintained in a good state of repair. Painting, colourwashing and repairs in accordance with the recurring programme were carried out. Major repairs included the following:-Gap Rock Lighthouse-reinforced concrete water storage tank erected, steps and paths repaired. Electrical installations at Gap Rock and Waglan Lighthouses were maintained in good order.

101. Roads and Bridges (Maintenance and Improvements):-- The surfaces of approximately eighty miles of roads were maintained in a satisfactory manner.

The following items of work were undertaken and completed by the end of 1937:-Re-surfacing, Fanling to Sha Tau Kok Road, 2¼ to 3½ mile; repairs to cement concrete parapet to bridge at 14 mile, Taipo Road; levelling and surfacing, Au Tau to Shek Kong Road junction with Main Road; repairs to Sun Hui Bridge, Castle Peak; widening Road at Smuggler's Gap and Taipo Road; re-surfacing Taipo Market Main Road; tarpainting Castle Peak-Fanling Road between 29th and 30th mile; re-surfacing Shun Wan Path; widening entrance to Dill's Corner and approach road to Ping Shan Police Station; re-surfacing Fanling Road from Wo Hop Shek to 18 mile; cutting back dangerous bend near 10 mile, Castle Peak Road; re-instated surface of Patrol Path; constructing cement concrete 54" dia. culvert under Au Tau to Shek Kong Road; forming car parks Nos. 5, 6 and 7, Castle Peak Road; repairs to surface and tarpainting from Fanling Cross Roads to 2nd. mile-stone on Sha Tau Kok Road; repairs to surface and tarpainting from 28th to 29th mile at Pok Wai; re-instating and turfing to embankment at Taipo Market; Sheung Tak and Sui On Streets, Taipo Market were surfaced, channelled and tarpainted.
