A traffic census was taken on some of the main roads in the Inside City district. During a twelve hour period (8 a.m. to 8 p.m.) the following results were obtained and these are shown compared with the 1936 figures.

57. Roads and Bridges Outside City (Maintenance and Improvements)--The surfaces of approximately 102 miles of roads were maintained in a satisfactory manner.

The following are particulars of the additional areas laid with improved surfacing:-

Tarring and sanding 7,152 Square Yards 21" granolithic paving laid on footways 1,071 Square Yards New sand carpeting 37 Square Yards 6" cement concrete road foundation 70 Square Yards
