LEGISLATION.

(i) The following amendments to by-laws were made by the Council:-

A. The by-laws under the heading "Markets" set forth in the Schedule to the Public Health (Food) Ordinance, 1935, were amended:-

(1) by the introduction of a new by-law 40A with the object of restricting the sale of the flesh of any animal slaughtered in the Government slaughter-house at Sai Wan Ho to the markets at Quarry Bay, Sai Wan Ho and Shaukiwan; and the sale of the flesh of any animal slaughtered in the Government slaughter-house at Aberdeen to the market at Aberdeen. The amendment was made by the Council on 7th January and approved by the Legislative Council on 19th March.

(2) by the amendment of by-law 41 with the object of excluding meat exposed for sale in accordance with permission granted under by-law 40. The amendment was made by the Council on 31st March and approved by the Legislative Council on 22nd April.

(3) by the amendment of by-law 6 with the object of amending the conditions on which market stalls are let by the Urban Council. The amendment was made by the Council on 21st July and approved by the Legislative Council on 26th August.

B. By-law 42 under the heading "Slaughter-houses" and sub-heading "Slaughter of animals" set forth in the Schedule to the Public Health (Food) Ordinance, 1935, was amended with the object of raising the scale of fees for slaughtering of animals. The amendment was made by the Council on 28th April and approved by the Legislative Council on 13th May.
