REPORT OF POSTMASTER GENERAL, HONG KONG, FOR THE YEAR 1935.
(A) POST OFFICE.
STAFF.
Mr. H. A. Mills, Chief Accountant, left for home leave on 4th May, and Mr. E. V. Reed was appointed to act in the post.
MAILS, REGISTERED ARTICLES AND PARCELS.
2. Full details are shown in Tables I, II and III.
3. The volume of air mail correspondence to Europe via Imperial Airways and K.L.M. Service showed a substantial increase. The service to Australia was not however strongly supported.
4. The total number of parcels handled shows a small decrease. Increases in the traffic with United States of America and Dutch East Indies were offset by decreases in the exchanges with British India and Japan.
REVENUE AND EXPENDITURE.
5. Tables IV and V show comparative figures for 1934 and 1935 under separate subheads and Table VI comparative totals for the past ten years.
6. The balance of revenue over the expenditure charged against the departmental vote was $722,330.
7. Reductions in parcel post rates generally, and in air mail rates to Great Britain via Imperial Airways, were brought into effect during the year.
8. Tables VII and VIII provide details relating to the sale of postage stamps.
MONEY ORDER OFFICE.
9. The combined totals of the year's transactions in Money Orders and British Postal Orders show a decrease of about £25,132 as compared with the figures for 1934.
