182. Water Works:-The main intake at Smuggler Pass has been reconstructed and 201 feet of 12" steel and 124 feet of 12″ cast iron main were laid from it to the South Conduit. In addition four small intakes with the necessary piping have been constructed along the South Conduit. A Water Works Depot, comprising office and watchman's quarters was erected at Taipo.

COMMUNICATIONS.
183. Re-surfacing Road from Tai Po Market in the direction of Fanling Cross Roads including filling in to twenty feet in width and part resumptions:-Cutting and filling for the widening of the road between 18 Mile and Fanling Cross Road were carried out by the maintenance contractor, Messrs. Jum Yee & Co. Such of the widened portions as were on solid ground were resurfaced with dry macadam tar painted, together with all margins and channels.

184. Improving bends at 51, 62 and 73 Miles, Taipo Road:-This work was referred to in paragraph 194 of last year's Report. The contract was completed in 1934 and only the retention monies (Part "A"-$500.00, Part "B"-$1,000.00 and Part "C"-$500.00) were paid in 1935.

186. Water Supply to Un Long District:-This scheme which was described in paragraph 197 of last year's Report was completed in June, since when a satisfactory supply has been maintained. The following work was done during the year:-- 450 feet of 6" cast iron main were laid at Un Long Village, 150 feet of 5″ wrought iron piping were laid near the irrigation dam and 720 feet of 5″ and 1,370 feet of 4" cast iron distribution mains were laid in Un Long Village. A Water Works Depôt, comprising an office and watchman's quarters were erected west of the Ping Shan Land Office.
