REPORT BY THE INSPECTORS OF ENGLISH SCHOOLS.

(a) PROVIDED.

1.

GOVERNMENT SCHOOLS.

Queen's College.--Headmaster, Mr. F. J. de Rome, The Maximum Monthly Enrolment was 595. The average attendance was 550 being a decrease of 39.

2. In the School Certificate Examination which was held in June, 63% of the candidates passed, nine with Honours. One student gained six distinctions including one of the very few given in Chinese, and was awarded a Government Education Scholarship tenable at the University of Hong Kong.

3. Queen's College recreation ground at Causeway Bay has been levelled and re-turfed and has now been made available for four other Government Schools. The activity in games has increased in consequence and cricket, football, hockey, tennis, volley ball and basket ball are played.

4. The indoor recreation room is well used and the boys in charge have started an illustrated weekly periodical of their own, published partly in English and partly in Chinese.

5. At least 50 Old Boys are at various Universities and at the recent Hong Kong University Congregation 7 former pupils received degrees.

6. King's College.-Headmaster, Mr. W. Kay, M.A. The maximum enrolment was 772. The average attendance was 709—a decrease of 133.

7. Fifty-seven boys sat for the School Certificate Examination and thirty-four passed, five of whom obtained Honours, twenty-seven matriculated and distinctions were obtained. One King Edward Scholarship and three Government Education Scholarships were obtained.

8. The health of the school was fairly satisfactory although there were a considerable number of "eye" cases.

9. An Old Boys' Association was formed during the year.

10. The Volley Ball teams met with a fair amount of success and the Junior Championship of the Inter-School Basket Ball league was obtained. At the Y.M.C.A. Inter-School Sports the school gained first place in the Small Boys' Division.
