Departmental limewashing at the request of owner and where necessary under By-law 4 was carried out throughout the year. No complaints as to the quality of the work done or of injury to property were received.
(x) Prevention of Mosquito Breeding. During the year action was taken in 7,066 cases of mosquito nuisance or potential mosquito nuisance.
(xi) Licensed Premises. - 851 premises were inspected by officers of the department with a view to the issue of new licences. Routine inspections of four thousand one hundred and seventeen licensed premises were made throughout the year.
(xii) Rat Catching. - Twenty-nine members of the Cleansing Staff were employed during the year setting traps, bird-lime boards and rat poison, also collecting rats from street rat-bins private premises, etc., and taking them to the Public Mortuary for examination. The total number of rats caught was:

11. WORK DONE UNDER THE FOOD AND DRUGS ORDINANCE AND SECTION 82 OF THE PUBLIC HEALTH AND BUILDINGS ORDINANCE.
(i) Samples of fresh milk were submitted for analysis under Section 12 of the Food and Drugs Ordinance, of which 75 were found to pass the standard and 5 to be below standard.
In addition the following samples of Food and Drugs were taken:
Apricot Jam 1 Beer 1 Biscuits 6 Bread 49 Butter 15 Cheese 1 Chocolate 3 Coffee 14 Condensed Milk 6 Flour 36 Ghee 3 Groundnut Oil 12 Lard 11 Mustard 1 Peanut Oil 1 Pineapple 1 Rice 3 Sugar 10 Sweets 15 Tinned Products 26 Unsweetened Sterilized Fullcream Evaporated Milk 1 Vinegar 1Prosecution was undertaken in 1 case where the sample failed to satisfy the legal requirements.
(ii) The following foodstuffs were seized and destroyed under Section 82 of the Public Health and Buildings Ordinance:
Fish 3,731 lbs. Cereals 6 lbs. Wheat 312 lbs. Flour 3,920 lbs. Fruit 2,104 lbs. Vegetables 44,925 lbs. Biscuits 62 lbs. Meat 731 lbs. Preserves and Condiments 798 lbs. Tinned Milk 586 lbs. Lard 1 lb. Coffee 2 lbs. Cocoanut Oil 100 lbs. Curry Paste 3 lbs. Dairy Products 105 lbs.M (1) 5 -
