105. The final division of Through and Joint Sectional traffic receipts were agreed between the two Administrations to end of June 1933.
106. Claims outstanding against the Chinese Section on account of suspension of Through and Joint Sectional Traffic and demurrage remained outstanding at $1,025,533.96. Additions were made during 1933.
107. Debits in respect of Demurrage and Hire of Rolling stock for the year 1933 were accepted by the Administration of the Chinese Section monthly and the accounts adjusted accordingly.
108. Interest on the net depreciation debited to Operating Expenses and credited to Depreciation Reserves in respect of 1933 amounted to $10,649.49, and was included in the Income Account under sub-head Interest on Depreciation Reserves.
109. Interest on Loan and Special Expenditure for the year was included in the Income Account, and for the first time in the history of the Railway the net revenue was more than sufficient to meet these charges. The balance of $45,937.62 was carried to the Profit and Loss Account, then transferred to Surplus Appropriation Account as Surplus for the year.
110. The Accumulated deficit from previous years brought forward was reduced by $45,937.62 which sum represents the Surplus for year. At the end of 1933 the Accumulated deficit amounted to $8,798,393.96.
STAFF CHANGES.
111. Mr. T G. Stokes, who had acted as Chief Accountant in 1932, during the absence of the Chief Accountant on long leave, ceased to be attached to the Railway Department and proceeded on long leave on the 13th January.
112. Mr. C. D. Lambert, Chief Mechanical Engineer, proceeded on long leave on the 2nd March, and returned to duty on the 24th November.
113. Mr. J. Smith, Assistant Mechanical Engineer, acted as Chief Mechanical Engineer in the absence on long leave of Mr. C. D. Lambert.
