REPORT OF THE GENERAL POST OFFICE,

HONG KONG, FOR THE YEAR 1933.

(A)-POST OFFICE.

STAFF.

Mr. M. J. Breen was appointed to act as Colonial Treasurer on 2nd June 1933 and Mr. W. J. Carrie took over duty as Postmaster General from that date.

MAILS, REGISTERED ARTICLES & PARCELS.

2. Full details are shown in Tables I, II and III.

3. An additional air mail service to Europe and intermediate countries was opened on 17th June. The mail is despatched from Hong Kong by steamer to connect at Singapore with the weekly service of the Bandoeng-Amsterdam Air Mail Line. The average time of transit Hong Kong to Great Britain is 15 days.

4. The flow of parcels to and from Great Britain and Japan showed increases but for all other countries decreases were recorded.

REVENUE AND EXPENDITURE.

5. Tables IV & V show comparative figures for 1932 and 1933 under separate subheads and Table VI comparative totals for the past ten years.

6. The balance of revenue collected by the Post Office over expenditure charged against the departmental vote was $752,596.

7. Tables VII & VIII provide details relating to the sale of postage stamps.

MONEY ORDER OFFICE.

8. The combined totals of the year's transactions Money Orders and British Postal Orders shows a decrease of about £9,525 as compared with the figures for 1932.
