137. Botanical Gardens: Improvements.-Under this head, a footpath 5' wide, with a wrought iron guard railing, was constructed at Glenealy by Messrs. Sang Lee & Co.

138. Extension to Buildings Ordinance Office. This work consisted of the erection of a three-storey addition to the Temporary Office block, occupied by the Buildings Ordinance, Crown Lands and Surveys and Waterworks Offices. The extension adds an office of about 1,120 square feet to each of these three sub-departments. Minor alterations were also undertaken in the existing building, necessitated by re-distribution of staff.

The contract was let to the Eastern Mercantile Construction Co. on the 7th December, 1932, and the work was satisfactorily completed on the 6th May, 1933.

139. Back Lane Service Pipes.-5,050 feet of 2" to 3" diameter wrought iron piping were laid as subsidiary mains in back lanes. 236 houses were connected to these services during the year.

The following work was carried out under this head:- 1,042 feet of 10" cast iron main were laid in Queen's Road East, from Monmouth Path to Ship Street; 1,416 feet of 8" cast iron main in Connaught Road Central, from Ice House Street to Jubilee Street; 117 feet of 6" cast iron main in Pottinger Street; 70 feet of 6" cast iron main in a new street off Pennington Street; 414 feet of 4" cast iron main in Whitfield Road and Glass Street; 186 feet of 4" cast iron main in On Lan Street; 111 feet of 4" cast iron main in Wing Fung Street.

141. Balance Tank at Ap Lei Chau.-There was no expenditure under this head during the year as the construction of this tank cannot be undertaken until the proposed new filtration plant for Aberdeen Village is approved.

142. Eastern Pumping Scheme: Jardine's Lookout Service Reservoir.-A contract for this section of the scheme was let to Messrs. Sang Lee & Co. for $16,930.00 on 26th July. Work was completed within the stipulated time on 30th November. Reservoir, which is covered, has been constructed of concrete throughout, the main and division walls being of gravity section.
