NEW TERRITORIES.

89. Maintenance of Buildings. Government buildings were kept in a good state of repair. Painting, colourwashing and repairs in accordance with the recurring programme were carried out to 14 buildings. Major repairs included:- Ta Ku Ling Police Station--renewal of flag mast and alterations to Lewis Gun tower, Tsun Wan Police Station--cement concrete water tanks, Au Tau Police Station--fly proof frames to Charge Room, Lok Ma Chau Police Station--repairs to cement concrete pathway to parade ground, Au Tau Magnetic Hut--provision of additional insulation, rearrangement of instrument stands and new door, Cheung Chau Police Station--new windows, Po Chu Tam Police Station--alterations and additions, Fanling Revenue Quarters--provision of mosquito frames and wash basins.

The electrical installations in fifteen Government buildings were tested and repaired and seventeen inventories of Electrical Fittings issued and revised. European Revenue Officers' Quarters at Fanling were wired for electric light and power: total number of points thirty. Three additional lights were installed at Au Tau Magnetic Hut and the wiring of the heating elements was rearranged to conform to structural alterations.

Improvements to Buildings--New Territories.-The principal improvements under this head were as follows:- Tai O Police Station--construction of a cement concrete staircase, Sha Tau Kok Police Station--provision of a concrete path from Station to Indian Quarters, Lok Ma Chau Police Station--alterations to verandahs, Tai Po Clerks' Quarters--wrought iron grilles to first floor of all Quarters, Tsun Wan Police Station--screens to Indian Quarters, Green Island Police Station--construction of cement concrete channelling and surfacing, Un Long Dispensary--alterations and additions. Three typhoon signal lanterns and six additional lights were installed at Cheung Chau Police Station and Sheung Shui Police Station. Two ceiling fans and one bell were installed at Taipo Land Office and Sai Kung Police Station. Un Long Dispensary was wired for electric light, fans and power: total number of points forty-seven.
