70. Gas Lighting. The total number of street lamps in use at the end of the year, all of which were incandescent, was 556, an increase of 1 over the previous year.
The fitting of Reflectors to the Gas Lamps in Kowloon was undertaken by the Gas Company, without expense to Government, and resulted in better illumination.

72. Typhoon and Rainstorm Damage. Following typhoons repairs of greater or less importance were carried out to the following buildings: Hung Hom Police Station, Signal Hill, Yaumati Pig Market, Royal Observatory and Kowloon Hospital.
Repairs were carried out to the Hung Hom Ferry Pier after the typhoon which occurred in September.

73. Maintenance of Water Works. A constant supply was maintained on 172 days during the year, compared with 272 in 1932.
Owing to the protracted dry season and the low rainfall it was necessary to impose the following restrictions: 1st to 24th January, and 28th January to 30th April, 10 hours per diem. (6-11 A.M. and 4-9 P.M.). 1st May to 27th June, 6 hours per diem. (6-9 A.M. and 4.30-7.30 P.M.). 26th August to 12th September, 10 hours per diem.
As the construction of the Yaumati Hill Service Reservoir had not been completed by the end of the year pressures had to be augmented by connections from the 24" trunk main.
A new centrifugal pump, driven by a 12 H.P. Petter Engine, was installed in the Pump House below Pineapple Pass. The pump is capable of delivering 23,000 gallons an hour into the Conduit and easily deals with the dry weather flow of the Shing Mun River at that point.
