106. Drainage:—(a) Training Nullahs.-Improvements were effected to the entrance sill of Wongneichong main nullah, at the head of Sing Wo Road. Parapet walling was constructed to Sookunpoo Nullah, near the French Hospital, Causeway Bay. Railings and grilles were erected in various places, and intakes were constructed in several nullahs to afford water supplies for flushing purposes. Short lengths of channelling were done in various districts.

(b) Sewage and Storm Water Drains.-New sewers and storm water drains to a length of 3,034 feet, and varying from 6" to 42" in diameter, were constructed during the year, principally in Wongneichong, Shaukiwan, and on the Praya East Reclamation. The number of drain connections made was 132. Many new gullies with flat gully gratings were constructed and connected to the storm water drainage system.

Offices alterations to Waterworks Office, benches and shelves in Drainage Office, Radio Offices--racks and shelving to storeroom, All Public Latrines-provision of theft proof covers to cisterns, Victoria Gaol--provision of sinks and waste pipes, Central Police Station-conversion of arms store to office, Treasury Offices-grilles and shelving to vault, Government Pavilions-surfacing to back yard and netting to railings, No. 155 The Peak-new W. C., Aberdeen Police Station alterations to path, Mental Hospital-provision of Fire Extinguishers, Bacteriological Institute-new work bench, Old No. 7 Police Station-remove and refix arms racks, Western District Sanitary Office-new geyser, Infant Welfare Centre at Wanchai-alterations and new geyser, Stables, Hong Kong Volunteer Defence Corps-new matshed, C. S. Offices-matting to roof over corridor, three storey addition to temporary office block P.W.D. commenced. Improvements and additions to the electrical installations were made in thirty-five buildings; total number of points--one hundred and forty-one. Seven fans, two 3-phase-motors, eleven radiators and nine telephones were installed in nineteen buildings.
