SHING MUN VALLEY SCHEME, 2ND SECTION.

294. Item A, Filtration Plant.-This work was referred to in paragraph 249 of last year's Report. The Filtration Plant supplied by the Paterson Engineering Company, arrived from England in October and a contract for the construction of the eight reinforced concrete beds, and subsidiary work was let to Messrs. Ng Wah now Messrs. Sang Tai on 13th July 1931 for $22,240.40. By the end of the year the site excavation had been completed and good progress made with the intricate reinforced concrete work in the waste water channel, filter bye pass conduit, floors of filter beds, and inspection boxes.

295. This work was referred to in paragraph 232 of the Report for 1928, paragraph 288 of the Report for 1929 and paragraph 251 of last year's Report. During the year progress was made on the following sub-heads:

296. Forming reclamation including completion of sea walls, nullahs, surfacing and drainage.-Approximately 494,581 cubic yards of earth filling were deposited and the contract was completed by the end of the year. Spot turfing to area between nullahs numbers three and four was made in July.

297. Roads.-The 100 feet road commencing at nullah number three and terminating at the north east corner was formed and surfaced with 4" dry macadam tarpainted and was completed by the end of the year.

298. Sheds.-The contract for the piling of the foundations for the hangar nearest the sea wall was satisfactorily completed on the 4th of February, 1931. The contract for forming cement concrete foundations to Aeroplane Hangar was awarded to the Vibro Piling Co. Ltd, on the 25th of February 1931 for a sum of $8,872.50; and the work was satisfactorily completed in April. The contract for the erection of the Aeroplane Hangar was let to Messrs. Sang Lee & Co. on the 15th June for a sum of $67,990.00 and was almost completed by the end of the year. This work consisted in the erection of steel framed hangar, with R.P.M. roofing and sides and brickwork annexes. The hangar dimensions are 250 feet by 125 feet by 40 feet high.

VEHICLES FERRY PIER SCHEME.

299. This work was referred to in paragraph 252 of last year's Report. The work undertaken comprises the construction of a group of ferry berths and reclamation in front of the Fire Station frontage between Queen Victoria Street and Jubilee Street, Hong Kong, also the construction of a vehicles ferry
