Many defective traps, gullies, gratings, etc., were replaced, and a number of old disused drains destroyed and filled in. All metal work in connection with the drainage systems was inspected, and, where found necessary, repaired and tarred.

Sand and silt were removed from:—Lo Lung Hang Nullah between Wuhu Street and Cook Street; stormwater drains in Chatham Road, San Lau Street and Ma Tau Wei Road; channel and catchpits on Crown Land behind Railway workshop, Hung Hom; catchpit in Argyle Street.

138. Damage was caused to Praya Walls as below by the typhoon on 1st August:--

Portions of the pitched slope on South of Tai Wan Bay and the sea wall at Hok Un Kok.

The damage had been repaired by the end of the year.

139. During the same typhoon many street lamps were damaged by falling trees and branches. Certain roads not treated with asphaltum were scoured, otherwise the damage was comparatively slight.
