The electric hoists for operating the ramps arrived in the Colony towards the end of October. The wiring for the operating motors was carried out by this Department and the erection of the hoists was carried out by Messrs. John M. Henderson, the Contractor for supply of same. The machinery was tested towards the end of December and found satisfactory.

178. Compensation and Resumptions. This vote provided for the Resumption of properties required for Street Widening and Improvement Schemes and in connection with the development of the district in accordance with the approved Town Planning Scheme. The Resumptions referred to in Schedule A on page 25 of this Report and the payments made by the Government in connection with the conversions and exchanges referred to at page 11 were debited to this vote. Also under this head the work of demolishing houses Nos. 9, 11 and 13 Austin Road in connection with the completion of Battery Street was undertaken. It became necessary to erect concrete buttresses against the walls of houses Nos. 7 and 15 Austin Road.

This work was completed by the end of May, 1930.
