WIRELESS TELEGRAPHY.
236. A summary of the work done under this heading is given below.
1. Cape D'Aguilar Wireless Telegraph Station V.P.S.-No additions have been made to this Station during the year, the Station has been maintained in a satisfactory manner.
2. The Government School for training Asiatic Operators.--- The school was closed during the year 1927 as sufficient operators had been trained.
3. Paid Traffic.-The total paid traffic for 1928 was 90,373 messages containing 799,150 words representing an increase over 1927 of 41,254 messages and 318,901 words or nearly 100% increase.
4. Rugby Press. The number of words which were received and distributed to various Government Offices and the local press was 211,156.
5. The Meteorological W/T Station at the Royal Observatory.-This W/T Station was maintained in a satisfactory manner.
6. Victoria Peak W/T Station Z.B.W.-The erection of two masts and one block of buildings was commenced. The masts were completed, and satisfactory progress made with the buildings by the end of the year.
7. Service Wireless Stations.-These stations, at the Police Stations, Lighthouses and on Government Vessels were maintained in a satisfactory manner.
8. Broadcasting Service. This was opened from a temporary station at Victoria Peak W/T Station and a nightly programme has been transmitted.
9. Radio Licences.-The number issued during the year was as follows:
