147. Alterations to Water Mains in connection with Road Improvements. A reference to this work appeared in paragraph 149 of last year's Report.

A length of 800 feet of main in Shanghai Street between Public Square and Pakhoi Streets was raised to give the correct cover, and the four-inch main in Temple Street between Market and Pakhoi Streets was replaced by one of six inches.

148. Compensation and Resumptions. - This vote provided for the resumption of properties required for street widening and improvement schemes, and in connection with the development of the district in accordance with the approved Town Planning Scheme.

The resumptions debited to this vote are referred to in the schedule at page 22 of this Report. In addition, the payments made by the Government in connection with the conversions and exchanges referred to at page 8 were also debited to this vote.

149. Filling in Tidal Flat and cutting down hill between Tai Kok Tsui and Fuk Tsun Heung. — This work was referred to in Annexe L at page 166 of last year's Report.

Slow progress was made with the filling in of the reclamation area by material from cuttings North of the Railway reserve at Mong Kok Tsui, the quantity of material deposited during the year by the Contractors being 59,397 cubic yards.

With the exception of the cope, the sea-wall was completed from the Western boundary of the reclamation to the 30-foot nullah which is being constructed to provide for the drainage of a large area at Kau Lung Tong.

Progress in the construction of the nullah referred to throughout the reclamation area was also slow. Between the bridges to be constructed on the line of Tong Mi Road and the new frontal road, the walls of this nullah were built to a height of six courses. The reinforced concrete footing and the greater portion of the abutments and pier of the frontal road bridge were formed, but no work on the invert was done during the period under review.
