122. Eastern Filter Beds.-This work was referred to in paragraph 125 of last year's Report.

The formation of the slopes, the turfing and channelling to embankments, the new sand washing site, the extension of the East catchwater and the diversion of the nullah at the East end of the upper Beds were practically completed. The nullah under the main embankment was extended and completed. The access roads were formed, channelled and partially surfaced, while the watchmen's quarters were completed and occupied.

Service Reservoir, Western Section. This section was practically completed during the year as well as the construction of 108 piers, 17,000 square feet of roof slabs and beams, and 400 lineal feet of channelling. Filling to the extent of 700 cubic yards was deposited over the roof. It was tested with satisfactory results and brought into use in October.

Eastern Section.--The use of this section as an open service reservoir since June, 1926, was discontinued when the completion of the Western Section had sufficiently advanced to enable it to be so used. The work of constructing the roof therefor was then commenced and 108 piers and 8,000 square feet of roof slabs and beams have been completed.
