The scheme for training Chinese Surveyors to which reference was made in the Report for 1925 is at present in abeyance; owing to the depletion of the European staff it has been found impossible to detail an officer to superintend this work. There is at present only one student on the staff, all last year students having been promoted to the grade of apprentice. The Chinese work well under strict supervision and much work which in the past had to be done by European Surveyors has been entrusted to them.

6.-Trigonometrical Work.-Stations have been fixed at Stanley Gap, Middle Island and on Repulse Bay Road below "Overbays". These points were tied into the main triangulation by observations taken from Stanley Mound, Brick Hill & Wong Ma Kok. Very good results were obtained and the polygon Stanley Mound, "Overbays", Brick Hill, Middle Island, Stanley Gap closed with little correction. These new stations were required for the continuation of the Ordinance Survey to the Southern side of the Island. Triangulation work was also carried out on the Northern side of the Island for the survey of the district between North Point and "Ah Kung Ngam". New stations were erected at "Shaukiwan", "Taikoo", "Quarry Bay", "North Point" and at "Cha Kwo Ling" on the mainland.

The side "Partridge Hill"-"Channel Rocks" was taken as a base and observations taken from the stations enumerated above in addition as well as from "Lyemun Rocks".

Although the closing error of the polygon was rather greater than that on the Southern side of the Island the result obtained was sufficiently accurate to enable the traverses, which are being run from the City survey to "Shaukiwan", to be checked.

7. Revenue Surveys and General.-Surveys were made in detail for plans (quadruplicate) to be attached to Crown Leases of 111 lots the largest of which were an area of about 46 acres leased by the Kowloon & Whampoa Dock Co. and the lands occupied by the Hong Kong University with a total area of over 20 acres. An area of 16 acres at "Cheung Sha Wan" was surveyed and plotted, also an area of 11 acres at "Kowloon Tong". Boundaries of 50 lots in Hong Kong and 95 in Kowloon and New Kowloon were defined on the ground for building areas and boundary stones were fixed to 70 lots in Hong Kong and 123 lots in Kowloon and New Kowloon. In Hong Kong 15 picket boxes were fixed in roads for marking permanent traverse points and thirty eight in the Kowloon Peninsula. Centre lines were laid down for various streets and permanent marks fixed and boundaries of numerous lots were defined to enable the Drainage Department to lay down lines for sewers and drains. In Hong Kong 38 frontage lines to streets were checked and in Kowloon and New Kowloon 89. For the purpose of ascertaining if sites had been formed to the required levels more than 60 lots were roughly delineated. Permanent marks at the
