95. Maintenance of Buildings.-The usual recurring programme for the upkeep of Government Buildings was deferred and only essential repairs etc. were carried out as they became necessary.
The expenditure amounted to $8,427.03.
96. Improvements to Buildings. The principal improvements carried out under this heading were as follows: Converting cooking hearths at Lok Ma Chau and Sheung Shui Police Stations; New European kitchen at Lok Ma Chau Police Station; Alterations to surface drainage at Sha Tin Police Station; Surfacing to yard at Tsun Wan Police Station.
Improvements to drainage at Castle Peak Police Station were carried out and completed by the end of October.
A few other improvements of a minor nature were also carried out.
The expenditure amounted to $2,906.54.
97. Maintenance of Roads and Bridges. Improvements to Roads and Bridges.
The roads generally were maintained in a satisfactory manner.
The following are particulars of the additional areas laid with improved surfacing during the year:-

Three additional telephones were installed.
Alarm bell systems were installed in 3 Police Stations.
Wooden poles were replaced by iron ones on various routes and old G.I. wires renewed.
The telephones and electrical signalling apparatus on the British Section of the Kowloon-Canton Railway were maintained in good condition. An additional telephone was installed in the office of the Engineer of Way and Works.
