70. Water Account (Meters etc).-The number of meters examined and repaired during the year was 1,943. A systematic overhaul of all meters is being carried out.

71. Maintenance of Buildings.-With the exception of Markets and Cattle Depôts the usual recurring programme for the upkeep of Government Buildings was deferred and only essential repairs etc. were done as they became necessary.
The expenditure amounted to $12,108.64.
72. Improvements to Buildings.--Works carried out under this heading were few and of a minor nature.
The expenditure amounted to $1,984.26.
73. Maintenance of Roads and Bridges. Approximate Improvements to Roads and Bridges. mileage 36.-The roads generally were maintained in a satisfactory manner.
The following are particulars of the additional areas laid with improved surfacing during the year:-
