P.W.R. Hong Kong.

The submarine cable between Waglan and Hong Kong Island was broken near Waglan during the Typhoon of September 27th. It was repaired and working by October 28th. (Repairs were delayed by unfavourable weather conditions).

The one pair submarine cable between Stonecutters Island and Tai Kok Tsui was badly damaged during the Typhoon of September 27th. Communication was transferred to the new four pair submarine cable which had been laid on September 14th. The old cable was picked up, a portion of it was found to be beyond repair, the remainder was put into the Government Cable Tank at Kennedy Town.

53. Maintenance of Sewers, Nullahs, &c.-The sewers, stormwater drains, and trained nullahs generally were cleansed, repaired and maintained in good condition, the open nullahs and channels in the City of Victoria and in the Shaukiwan District being cleansed by the Sanitary Department. The automatic flushing tanks were operated during periods of low tide, deposits were cleared as they occurred.

The septic tanks at Lugard Road, Repulse Bay, Deep Water Bay and near R.B.L. 137, Pokfulam Road, and at F. L. 29 and 30 Pokfulam were periodically sludged.

All metal work in connection with the various drainage systems was inspected, and, where found necessary, repaired and tarred.

Repairs were effected to septic tanks, sewers, stormwater drains, and nullahs, the most important being to those situated as shown below:-
