5. Training of Chinese Surveyors.-A school for training Chinese Surveyors was formed as part of the Survey Office in 1922. The system employed being to engage a number of Students who had completed their education in Government schools and who had a fair knowledge of mathematics. After a probationary period of twelve months these students are promoted to Apprentice Surveyors on a three years' agreement. The scheme has worked well, those engaged shewing keenness for the work, and it is possible to entrust the apprentices of two and three years standing with minor traverses and detail work on the City survey, but they still, and will, for some time require continual competent European supervision.

6. Trigonometrical Work.-Little work of this description was carried out during the year. Observations for refixing Tai Mo Shan, Tsing I, Kai Keung Leung and Tai Lam Chung Station were continued and this work has now been completed. Observations have also been carried out to fix Mt. The position of the Wireless Station at Cape D'Aguilar was fixed from observations taken for Latitude and Longitude.
