The Reservoir commenced to fill in June, and by the end of the year it contained an effective collection of 83.14 million gallons although the benefit of the catchwaters was not available until well on in the rainy season.

The leakage observed is small and drains into either the Kowloon Reservoir or the new Reception Reservoir in the lower Shek Lai Pui Valley.

The works carried out under Contract comprise the following:

1. A Draw-off and Overflow Dam with Valve House (Dam No. 1).

2. The Main Dam (Dam No. 2).

3. A small Dam North of the Main Dam (Dam No. 3).

4. Two catchwaters.

5. An Overflow and Draw-off Channel leading to the Kowloon Reservoir.

1. This Draw-off Dam has an overall length of 168 feet and a maximum height of 42 feet from the lowest foundation level to the path. The overflow sill, 37 feet in length, is of granite ashlar. There are three draw-off sluices, 12 inches in diameter, with 9 inch control valves in the Valve Well. The draw-off levels are 636, 624 and 610 A.O.D.

In its construction the following materials were used:

948 c. yds. of fine cement concrete.

503 c. yds. of cement concrete displacer.

168 c. yds. of cement concrete blocks.

129 c. yds. of granite ashlar and rubble masonry.

85 c. yds. of lime concrete.

The up-stream side and Valve Tower are faced with cement concrete blocks, while the overflow and down-stream faces are of granite ashlar and rubble masonry respectively. Good hard rock was met with in the foundations, but it did not rise much above 616 O.D., in consequence of which the tongues of the Dam were carried well into the hillside and founded in hard decomposed granite.

2. This Main Dam has an overall length of 310 feet and a maximum height of 73 feet from the lowest foundation level to the level of the path. A 15 inch washout pipe, at the level of 595 A.O.D., is provided, with a reinforced concrete headstock chamber projecting from the inner face of the Dam.
