It was found necessary to strengthen the foundation of Beds Nos. 8 & 10 with reinforced concrete piles varying in length from 6 to 12 feet.

193. Miscellaneous Waterworks.-The following works were carried out under this heading during the year:-
(1). Minor extensions to mains, $956.60
(2). Unforeseen works, $4,461.39
(3). Repairs to Yaumati Reservoir, $480.83
(4). Pump-house at Laichikok, $1,068.58

(1). (a). A length of 1,100 feet of 4" C.I. main was laid along Kai Yan Road, Kowloon City.
(b). Street fountains were installed in districts where development has rendered them necessary.
(c). Improvements were made to the W.I. main which supplies the Royal Observatory and the adjoining houses.
(2). (a). A diversion of 500 feet in length was made to allow of the construction of the Kowloon City Road.
(b). A diversion of 2,200 feet in length was also made along the new alignment of the Kowloon City Road, of which a stretch of 1,500 feet was relaid with 10" C.I. pipes and for the remainder 6" C.I. pipes were utilized.
(3). Urgent and necessary repairs were effected to the Yaumati Service Reservoir.
(4). The pump-house was built to accommodate the new pump which supplies the Gaol.
