45. Maintenance of Buildings.-Government Buildings generally were kept in their usual good state of repair, general renovation work and repairs being carried out in accordance with the recurring programme.
The expenditure amounted to $181,171.86.
46. Improvements to Buildings. The principal improvements carried out under this heading comprised the following:-
Government Civil Hospital.-Laying Decolite flooring to certain portions of "C" Block; alterations to X-Ray Room and laying new teakwood floor to same; and extension to Labour Ward at the Maternity Block. P.W.D. Offices.-Alterations and improvements consequent upon the extension of accommodation required for the General Works, Drainage, Accounts and Stores, and Survey Offices. Wanchai School.-Installation of Water Carriage System. New Government Offices.-Erection of Simplex Partitions in H.S.D.'s Office, and construction of a new store for stationery. Supreme Court.-Improvements to cell accommodation and provision of new grilles. Queen's College.—Forming room for models and maps. Rented Quarters for Police in Hospital Road.-Provision of bathrooms, new partitions, &c., and general improvements. Dogs' Home, Kennedy Town Slaughter House Group.-Erection of 12 dog cages. P. & O. Building, Government Electrician's Office.-Erection of partitions and shelving in the Strong Room. Victoria Gaol.-Installation of modern sanitary fittings in the corner house and sundry alterations to Warders' Quarters and the erection of a small kitchen for coolies. Quarters of the Superintendent of Botanical and Forestry Department.-Installation of Water Carriage System and European bath. Wanchai Market.-Erection of a new dust-bin. Garage, Stubbs Road.-Formation of a path behind it. Stables at Government House.-Alterations to windows and improvements to floors Queen's Garden Flats.-Erection of partitions to divide certain rooms. "The Bracket" and "Lysholt", The Peak.-Installation of Water Carriage System and European sanitary fittings.
Many other improvements of a minor nature were also effected to various Government Buildings.
The total expenditure under the Vote amounted to $51,481.38.
47. Maintenance of Lighthouses.-Painting and colour-washing together with necessary repairs were carried out at a total cost of $4,227.80.
