Resumptions debited to Vote P.W.E. 117, Kaulungtong Development Scheme, (a.) Re-sumptions.

In connection with the development of Kowloon under the approved Town Planning Scheme, numerous resumptions were effected on the basis of exchanges.

The exchanges are given in schedule on pages 14 to 24.

Compensation amounting to $35,859.68 covering 52 properties was paid in respect of the structures on old lots resumed under this arrangement.

338 lots were resumed, of which 151 amounting to $174,192.20 were in connection with Kaulungtong Development Schemes. Many of these resumptions were on the basis of exchanges which are given in Schedules on pages 14 to 24; the remainder consisting mainly of agricultural lots being resumed outright.

The total amount of payments approved for these resumptions was $396,021.43: this covered compensation for structures on the old lots and for deficit area in the case of exchanges, and also for lots resumed outright.

5 lots were resumed and the total payments approved for their resumption amounted to $1,213.26.

Particulars of lots resumed in the Northern District of the New Territories will be found in the Land Officer's Report for 1925.

As in previous years, the general policy adopted in connection with the various street widening schemes has been to acquire the land required as and when rebuilding takes place, thus avoiding the payment of large sums for the demolition of structures in addition to the value of the land taken.

A fair proportion of the money paid out under this head was for resumptions arranged during the previous year.
