Inspector W. G. Gerrard acted as a Supernumerary Assistant Supt. of Police New Territories throughout the year.

Mr. J. Kerr Assistant Superintendent of Police proceeded on vacation leave on December 2nd, 1925 prior to retirement.

REPORT ON THE WATER POLICE.

The strength of the Water Police during the year was 2 Inspectors, 2 Sub-Inspectors, 3 Crown Sergeants, 25 Lance Sergeants (including 2 Lance Sergeants at Lok Ma Chau) 34 Coxswains, 4 Boatswains, 116 Seamen, 36 Engineers, 35 Stokers, 2 Barrack Sergeants, 2 Station Sergeants, 1 Motor Mechanic, 8 detectives, 6 C. C. searchers, 6 R. searchers, 1 female searcher and 17 boatmen making a total of 300.

The above included all the detectives at the Water Police Station and those employed under the Piracy Prevention Ordinance.

2 Carpenters, 2 Painters and 1 Sailmaker were transferred to Harbour Office on 1.1.25. On this date the Yaumati Slipway was placed under the management of the Harbour Department. An end was thereby put to an objectionable system of double control. All coaling stores and repairs now come under the Harbour Department. The Police do nothing except to supply the crews for the running of the launches.
