The attached graphs show the number of animals slaughtered in all Slaughter Houses during the past ten years.

Grass Supply for Government Bullocks.

The area under cultivation has been decreased by about an acre at Kowloon owing to building developments. The amount cut at Kennedy Town was 275 tons 8 cwt. and at Kowloon 234 tons 4 cwt. A considerable amount of this was supplied to the Medical Department to feed ponies used for the production of Anti-meningococcic Serum and no charge was made for this.

The number of animals examined and passed through Quarantine during the year are as follows:-

Horses, mules 233 (This does not include 5 destroyed). Dogs 150 Cattle 49

Horses and mules were kept in Quarantine until they had passed the Mallein test.

Dogs and cattle were kept under observation for varying periods.

As 4 of the above cases of Glanders occurred in a batch of expensive high-class ponies, it shows the value of the test as a protection to horse owners.
