237. New Lunatic Asylum.-Sketch plans were prepared towards the end of the year for a Lunatic Asylum to be erected on a site at Laichikok near the existing Laichikok Gaol. The scheme was under consideration at the end of the year.
238. Temporary Magistracy, Kowloon.-This work consisted of the conversion of the Old Yaumati Police Station into a temporary Magistracy providing a large Court Room with other rooms for the Magistrate, Solicitors, Clerks, &c., and additional cell accommodation on the Ground Floor below the Court Room. The alterations were carried out by Messrs. Sang Lee & Co. under the Contract for Maintenance of Buildings.

239. Royal Observatory, Seismograph Room and Installing Gas Service-This work was referred to in paragraph 150 of the Report for 1922. The construction of the Seismograph Room proceeded satisfactorily and was completed in June.

240. Tower on Railway Ground for Fire Brigade, Kowloon.— A steel structure 55 ft. high and similar to that existing at the Wanchai Fire Station was erected opposite the Fire Station at Kowloon.
The Tower, of which the primary use is for hose drying, has platforms fixed at intervals throughout its height for use in fire drill exercises.

241. Sexton's Quarters, Kowloon Cemetery.-Plans were prepared and a contract let for the work in November: The structure will be of brickwork and roofed with double roll and pan tiling.
