TOXICOLOGICAL.

Among the chemico-legal investigations made during the year were 57 cases of suspected human poisoning. The results of the examinations are given below :-

PUBLIC WATER SUPPLIES.

A considerable amount of work was done in connection with the public water supplies during the year. During the period of shortage in the earlier months, as the quality fell a close watch was kept on the main supplies.

In connection with a scheme for supplementing the local supplies, an investigation of the water of the Canton River was carried out and useful data obtained.

Chlorination of the water supplies was begun during the year and the chemical control of this during the experimental stages was carried out by the staff. A portable testing outfit was designed and constructed for the rapid determination of free chlorine in water.

The water supplies of some of the New Territory Police stations having been placed under suspicion, it was suggested that these stations be provided with small and simple chlorination outfits, and this having been approved these outfits were constructed and supplied.

Six water testing cases of the Horricks Box type were prepared for use in Hongkong.
