RINDERPEST.
Three outbreaks occurred during the year against 5 in 1922. In all 83 cases occurred of which 44 found fatal.
PLEURO-PNEUMONIA CONTAGIOSA.
No outbreaks.

ANTHRAX.
GLANDERS.
On an unsuspected animal being examined post-mortem at the 'Animal Crematorium' prior to cremation, lesions of Glanders were found. Movement of all in-contacts was stopped immediately and a Mallein test carried out. Two animals apparently in perfect health reacted. Post-mortem examination confirmed the diagnosis in both cases.
The fortunate accident of the first animal's having to be destroyed for reasons in no way concerned with infectious disease, in all probability saved this stable from a very serious loss through the spread of the disease.
Two ponies on admittance to Military Quarantine, prior to going into Military Stables, reacted on being tested. Post-mortem examination again confirmed the diagnosis. One other isolated case was found in a private stable. The fact that in all these cases the diagnosis arrived at by the Mallein test was confirmed by the finding of lesions in the animal after slaughter is good evidence of the reliability of the test.
The fact that not one of the above animals showed sufficient clinical symptoms to cause an experienced trained observer to suspect the existence of the disease shows the danger of relying on mere clinical examination of animals which may have been exposed to infection.
No outbreaks.
FOOT AND MOUTH DISEASE.
EXAMINATION OF MILK FOR THE PRESENCE OF BACILLUS TUBERCULOSIS.
During the year the close inspection of milch cattle and the bacteriological examination of specimens of the milk produced by these cattle was commenced.
