172. Miscellaneous Water Works.-The following is a statement of the expenditure of work carried out under this heading:-
1. Special Repairs to Catch water, ..... $ 4,553.34 2. Minor Extensions to Mains, &c..... 29.90 3. Investigations of New Sources of supply, 3,199.84 4. Additional Fountain Service, 28.90 $ 7,811.98(1.) Special Repairs to Catchwater.-Extensive repairs were carried out to existing catchwater, including the improvement of stream intakes, and repairing clear water channel. Glazed tiles were laid along a further length of the clear water channel:
(2.) Minor Extensions to Mains, &c.-Very little work was carried out under this sub-head as all extensions were carried out under another vote, namely P.W.E. 86,-" Enlarging Mains to improve Distribution System in Kowloon.

(3.) Investigations of New Sources of Supply,—
(a.) Clearing, &c., for Extensions to Existing Catchwater.
(b.) Preparation work in connection with new Shek Lai
Pui Reservoir.
(c.) A considerable amount of work was done in connection with the proposed Shing Mun Scheme.

173. Gaol, Ngau Shi Wan.-This was referred to in paragraph 158 of last year's Report.
Owing to the pressure of other work in the Architectural Office it was not possible to commence this during the year. The small expenditure for this year shown below was for clearing the site for survey purposes :-
