Q 123

The Survey of Kowloon (50'-1") is completed and is being revised as development progresses. This survey has been reduced to 200′=1′′ and inked in, but, as it is desirable that a portion of New Kowloon including Kowloon City and Shamshuipo (where large developments are now taking place) should be included in the new map, it will probably not be ready for reproduction for another six months.

A survey was made of Signal Hill and surrounding lots, containing an area of about 10 acres, to define War Department boundaries. Surveys were also made of 9 lots of land in Hongkong and Kowloon covering an area of 152,673 square feet, which were put up to public auction and realised $30,565 in premium and $996 in Crown Rent.

One surveyor was stationed permanently in the New Territories during the year and a temporary surveyor was employed on contract during a considerable portion of the year to continue the surveys of villages in the New Territories.

The following villages in the New Territories, containing 5,875 houses, were surveyed and plotted during the year, viz.: Yeung Kong Wai, Sun Hang Wai, Shek Kong Tsun, Tung Tau, Lung Uk Tsun, Shek Kong Wai, Ki Hang Tsun, Ha Tsun, Sheung Cheung Wai, Ping Shan Tsai, Ping Shan, Tong Fong, Shan Cheung, Hiong Yuen, Shui Tau, Wing Hung Wai, Shui Tan, San Tsui, Tam Shui Hang, Kong Ha, Wai Tsai, San Tsun, Tong To Tsun, U Shek Kok, Lek Mei, Im Tso Ha, Shek Kiu Tan, Ho Wo Hang, Au Ha, Nam Chung Cheng, Nga Iu Tan, Ma Tseuk Ling, Tai Long, Tui Hang, Sheung Wo Hang, Leuk Kong, Sheuk Pan Tau, Kui Kuk Shui, Ho Lek Pai, Nam Hang Mei, Lo Tung Tsui, Mau Uk Pin, Ma Mi Hang, Hok Tau, Tam Chuk Hang, Hok Tau Pui, Leng Pei, San Wai, San Uk Tsai, Ma Mi Ha, Leng Tsai, Kwai Tsu Ling, San Tong Po, San Shui Hang, Kau Po, Tam Chuk Hang, Hok Tau Pui, Kau Tau, Hok Tau Ha, Heung Un Tsun, Tsung Un Ha Tsun, Heung Un, Chuk Un Tsun, Li Uk Tsun, Fung Wong U, San Uk Ling, Nga Tu Ha, Ping Yen, Wa Kang Shan, and Kau Tau Wai.

In addition to the Villages enumerated, numerous minor surveys required by the District Officer, North, were prepared. Surveys were also made of the light railway from Au Ha to Sha Tau Kok, of the main road from Taipo to Fanling, of about 150 acres of orchards at Fanling, and of Taipo Market, the European Reservation, etc.

7. Maps published. The revised 2" map of Hongkong and New Territories arrived from England during the year.

No new maps were published.

8. Miscellaneous Matters -- The following maps and plans were prepared for official use during the year: - 182 lease plans (in triplicate), 11 sale plans (in duplicate), 496 tracings, and 2,028 sunprints in connection with proposed sales, permits, etc., whilst 1,015 permits for temporary occupation of Crown Land and 66 licences for temporary piers and slipways were issued.
