If for any reason no award be made in any one year, the scholarships may be awarded to the competitor immediately following the winner in order of merit in the next or any subsequent years.

The competition shall, except in the case of St. Francis' School, be confined to pupils who have competed at the Oxford Local Preliminary Examination immediately preceding, and shall further be limited to such pupils if any as shall have obtained Honours thereat, and if there are none who have obtained Honours, then to such pupils if any as shall have passed under age, and if there are none who have passed under age, then to such pupils as shall have passed over age.

These Rules may from time to time, if thought fit, be amended by the Governor in the interest of the Schools named.

Addresses at Prize-givings by His Excellency the Governor.

His Excellency the Governor distributed the prizes at St. Joseph's College, Belilios Public School and Queen's College, but was unavoidably prevented from being present as intended at Yaumati and Ellis Kadoorie. Brief summaries of his remarks are given below.

St. Joseph's College (21st December, 1910).

His Excellency congratulated the school on the remarkable results obtained in the last Oxford Local Examinations, and was very pleased to hear that the school-library had been extended. His Excellency was gratified to see that the school had done well in sport, and concluded by making an announcement as to the terms of the Lugard Scholarships.
