SIR,

[Answered by No. 83.]

South Kensington, S.W., April 4, 1906.

I AM directed to inform you that the Senate, at their last meeting, appointed to the Chair of Protozoology, Mr. E. A. Minchin, M.A., Jodrell Professor of Zoology at University College, London, and sometime Fellow of Merton College, Oxford. I am to add that there was a large and distinguished field of candidates for the post.

As the Colonial Office is no doubt aware, Professor Minchin was recently despatched to Uganda to investigate the subject of sleeping sickness, and is now engaged in completing the work which he began in East Africa

funds towards the founding of a scholarship for the study of tropical diseases, and the promise of Mr. Secretary Lyttelton to place the matter before the Advisory Board for the Tropical Diseases Research Fund in November last, I am directed by the Council of the British Medical Association, to enquire the result of the considera- tion by the Advisory Board of this matter. The reason my Council would like this information is that it desires to renew its overtures to the Government, with a view to founding such a scholarship.
