SIR,

of the
October.
2. The report has been laid before the Advisory Committee for the Tropical Disease Research Fund, and the Committee has recommended to the Secretary of State, and the Secretary of State has approved the continuance of the grant

of
3. With reference to my letter of the 8th of July,† I am to state that Lord Elgin would be glad if the School could furnish by the end of May a progress report of the work done up to the end of April, which would be laid before the Committee at their meeting in June, and a second and fuller report in the latter half of October, for submission to the Committee at its meeting in November, in which the full results for the year should be given. The results will then be embodied in the Committee's report for the year, as the Committee are anxious, in the interests of the work of teaching and scientific research in which the Tropical Schools are engaged, to lay before the contributories to the fund, and to publish for general information, a summary justifying the expenditure which is being incurred, and furnishing an argument for its continuance.
4. Lord Elgin will also be glad to receive, as soon as possible after the end of 1905, an account supported by copies of vouchers showing the expenditure of the sum granted. A similar account will be asked for in respect of 1906.
5. To the Liverpool School only.] I am also to acknowledge the receipt of, and to thank you for, your letter of the 11th of December, enclosing copies of two interesting reports which have been recently issued by the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine.

THE EARL OF ELGIN to the GOVERNORS AND HIGH COMMISSIONERS.⭑
(Circular.)
SIR,
MY LORD,
Downing Street, December 22, 1905. I HAVE the honour to transmit to Your Excellency, for the information of
you, for your information.
your Ministers,
with reference to previous correspondence, the accompanying copy
of the report of the Advisory Committee of the Tropical Disease Research Fund for the year 1905.
2. There has not yet been time for extensive results to be effected, and subse- quent reports will no doubt be fuller than this report, and contain details of the work accomplished by the help of the sums granted from the fund. The Committee are quite satisfied that already very substantial work is being carried out by the Liverpool and London Schools of Tropical Medicine and by the Royal Society, and it is expected that an appointment of a Professor of Protozoology at the University of London will be made early next year.
I have, &c.,
