Recites Letters Patent of 27th April, 1818.

Recites Statutes of 30th May. 1877.

Recites Clause XII. of those

date the Twenty-seventh day of April, 1818, to autho- rize any such Increase of the Number of Members of any such Class or Classes:

And whereas, in pursuance and in exercise of the Power vested in Us as Sovereign of the Most Distin- GUISHED ORDER OF SAINT MICHAEL AND SAINT GEORGE, We did Make, Ordain, and Establish certain Statutes bearing date the Thirtieth day of May, 1877, in the Fortieth Year of Our Reign, for the Government of the said Most Distinguished ORDER, wherein power is reserved to Us of Altering or Abrogating the same, or of Adding thereto, and Explaining any Particular therein, by a notification thereof, Sealed with the Seal of the said MOST DISTINGUISHED Order, which altera- tions and explanations shall be taken as part and parcel of the said Statutes:

And whereas, by the Twelfth Clause of the afore- said Statutes of Our said Order, it is Ordained that, although We have deemed it expedient in the fore- going Statutes to prescribe and limit the numbers which shall constitute each Class of the said MOST Letters Patent of Distinguished Order, it shall nevertheless be lawful 1850, reserving the for Us, Our Heirs and Successors, by virtue of the Sovereign's power to increase the powers to Us and them reserved in and by Our said number of

Members in each Class.

Letters-Patent bearing date the Thirty-first day of December, 1850, in the Fourteenth Year of Our Reign, at any time to Increase the Numbers of any of

the said Classes, and to assign a place in any such Class to any Person whom We may think fit to admit into the same:

And whereas by a certain Statute bearing date the Sixth day of May, 1879, in the Forty-second year of Recites Statute of Our Reign, We did Ordain that the total number of increasing the the Ordinary Members of the Order should be increased number of the to four hundred and sixty, and that the First Class, or Order. KNIGHTS GRAND CROSS, should not exceed fifty in number, in addition to such Extra and Honorary Members as We should from time to time appoint, and that the Second' Class, or KNIGHTS COMMANDERS, should not exceed One hundred and fifty in number, in addition to such Honorary Members of the said Class as We should from time to time appoint, and that the Third Class or COMPANIONS should not exceed Two hundred and sixty in number, in addition to such Honorary Members of the said Class as We should from time to time appoint :

And whereas it has appeared expedient to Us, without permanently increasing the total number of the Ordinary Members of this Order, to provide for the admission into Our said Order of such persons as have rendered to Us special and important Services in connection with the Exhibition of the Products, Manufactures, and Arts of Our Colonial and Indian Dominions, being held in London during the prescut year of Our Reign:
