Your telegram of 22nd December.† Secretary of State for War grateful for offer of nurses; ten sufficient at present. They should be thoroughly tramed. Services will be primarily destined for Colonial forces and irregular troops as British regular forces can be legally only attended by nurses belonging to Army Nursing Reserve.

I am proud to inform you that £15,000 have been subscribed in the Colony of New South Wales for a volunteer bushmen corps to serve in South Africa. In view of patriotic demonstrations here, I suggest that Colonial Office should use this as the nucleus of the similar fund which I understand has been started at home.
