Under these circumstances it is obvious that no pritlent manufacturer could tender for any of the cables at a fixed price, without the assurance of actually holding a stock of gutta pereha sufficient to enable him to carry out the contract should it be awarded to hini.
We therefore beg to inform you that the Tender which we send you is conditional upon our being able to purchase gutta percha at the price of 8/- perlh. for fine gutta percha, and other brands in proportion, with an undertaking to be given to us that in the event of our being favoured with the order for that portion of the cable for which we have tendered, we shall be reimbursed for any excess over the above price we have to pay for raw gurta percha, and on the other hand we would undertake to reduce our price by any saying which we might effect in our purchases of gutta percha. The price of 8/- per 16. refered to is the actual price paid within the last few weeks for the only parcel of fine gutta percha in London, and is high compared with prices of, say, two months ago.
